Photographers have many tools to use when they editing photos, but the two that you probably hear debated the most are Adobe Photoshop VS Lightroom.

Many beginners don’t know the difference between Adobe Photoshop VS Lightroom. They want to know which one they should use Photoshop VS Lightroom and many of you also having a question that “which one is better”.

Adobe Lightroom includes a sunset of Photoshop’s features. It has covered the majority, if not all, image manipulation tools you need most often.

However, it is much more than a photo editor or image editing software because it helps you import, manage, organize and search your images. That’s why Lightroom is photo management and photo editing, combined into one tool.

Pros and Cons of Photoshop

Pros —

Photoshop is an amazing and advanced set of editing tools. With the help of Photoshop, your photo edits are limited only by your imagination. You can get a sharpen image, a blurry background, add some special effects and much more.

In addition to editing photos, Photoshop allows you to make raster or vector images from scratch. This opens up a world of possibilities to turn your photos into graphic design projects such as posters, flyers and even business cards.

Cons —

Photoshop is best for advanced edits but it is not as easy to use Lightroom.

  • It has image storage and organizing capabilities.

Cons —

Lightroom has built for photographers to edit their images simply and quickly but it also has some drawbacks.

  • It has less advanced editing options.
  • It has no capabilities of creating vectors and images from scratch.
  • It is non layer based.

How to choose between Photoshop and Lightroom 

Now after discussing everything the question is when and why you should use each program. As you see, Photoshop and Lightroom both are equally important. They are just different. As a photographer you can use both. You can use Photoshop for creating vector image and more advanced image editing and Lightroom for basic, simple and quick edits.

When you should use Lightroom

If you are comfortable with Adobe Camera Raw, then developing a photo in Lightroom will look very familiar. If you are a beginner, you will probably be satisfied with these features. Lightroom is also much easier to use than Photoshop, which may have a greater learning curve. Also as I said you can use it for basic image editing including cropping, black and white conversation, exposure, red eye correction, vibrance, saturation and much more.

When you should use Photoshop

Simply I can say, when you can’t use Lightroom. If you want to have more advanced level editing or pixel level control to edit photos. If you want to put your friend’s face on giraffe’s face. If you want to cut and dice a couple of image to create a single amazing image. You can remove blemishes and small objects because while you’re doing this in Lightroom, the capabilities are not as good as using the content aware magic of Photoshop’s patch tools and healing brushe.
