🛡️ Editor’s Note
Entry #3 in our India Defence Tech series. Following our coverage of the Union Budget’s AI push, we look at the first major beneficiary: a “Made in Bharat” system that stops swarm attacks in their tracks.

TL;DR
Hyderabad-based Grene Robotics has reportedly secured a landmark ₹100 Crore contract to deploy its Indrajaal autonomous counter-drone system across sensitive Army and Navy sectors. Powered by the proprietary “SkyOS”, it is the world’s only wide-area C5ISRT system capable of defending against micro-drones, loitering munitions, and swarm attacks simultaneously.

The Swarm Threat

As we discussed in our analysis of the MAPSS Solar Drone induction, the future of warfare is unmanned. But if India is launching drones, it must also be ready to stop them. Traditional air defence (like missiles) is too expensive and too slow to stop a swarm of $500 quadcopters. You can’t use a flyswatter to kill a cloud of mosquitoes.
Enter Indrajaal: A 4,000 sq. km. Shield

Indrajaal is not a single gun; it’s a mesh network.
* Coverage: A single unit covers up to 4,000 sq. km., creating a “Digital Iron Dome” over critical assets like oil refineries, nuclear plants, and forward airbases.
* Agnostic Integration: It doesn’t care who made the radar or the jammer. It integrates legacy sensors with new-age lasers and jammers into a single dashboard.
SkyOS: The Brain Behind the Brawn

The real secret sauce is SkyOS, a Lego-like operating system for defence.
Reasoning AI: Unlike rule-based systems, SkyOS uses “Cognitive AI” to predict the flight path of incoming threats.
Decision Speed: It reduces the OODA Loop (Observe-Orient-Decide-Act) from minutes to microseconds, autonomously jamming threats before a human operator even blinks.
Strategic Significance
This deal is the first tangible proof of the ₹100 Crore AI allocation announced in Budget 2026 moving into execution mode. By choosing an indigenous startup over foreign vendors (like Israel’s Iron Dome or Rafael’s Drone Dome), the MoD is signaling that data sovereignty is non-negotiable.
If the enemy brings the storm, Bharat brings the umbrella.
